Faith, Prayers and Courage for those living with CHD
Congentital Heart Disease occurrs in 1 in 100 births! Although they call it congenital (genetic), the genetic connection is only identified 30% of the time. Out of the 40,000 babies born in the USA per year with CHD, 10,000 will require surgery within the first year of their lives. Our Lily is one of those 10,000. This Spring, she will undergo major surgery to repair three heart defects.
With the development and advancement of cardiac technology interventions, babies born with CHD are living well into adulthood. There can be significant neurodevelopment and behavioral consequences however. Technology driven interventions continue to be explored and developed, including fetal echocardiography which provides a view into the development of CHD during pregnancy with the possibility to alter its development!
