Survive and Thrive
Survive and Thrive

Team Pulse Ox-en

For the 5th Year, we are pleased as a family to walk in honor of Mia, who is a congenital heart disease survivor.   Mia was born with Tricuspid Atresia and Transposition of the Great Arteries.   She has endured three open heart surgeries, four catheterizations, and a lengthy hospital stay.

While surviving is important, we want her and her fellow heart warriors to thrive.  At age 4, Mia's doing a pretty darn good job.   She loves to play, wrestle with her twin brother Ari and big sister Emmy, and this past November she got to meet Mickey!

While Mia has persevered in her journey, she still has hurdles.   Meeting Mia, you will see a strong and determined little girl.   However, her future health will still need the benefits of the research dollars that we can raise now.  Since her last surgery, Mia does not have a normal sinus rhythm.     While she is asymptomatic now, the impact and potential treatments are unknown.   Mia's surgeries are also palliative.  They are not a cure.   The Fontan Circulation that her body now utilizes is ineffecient and can affect her other organ systems.

CHD care has come miles from where we were just a few short decades ago.   Please join us again in raising awareness and helping Mia and her fellow survivors live healthy and long lives.
