Friends & Family,
Our precious Charli was born with a Congenital Heart Defect called HRHS (Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome) which is essentially an underdeveloped right ventricle with pulmonary valve atresia caussing inadequate blood to flow to the lungs. At 2.5 weeks old Charli had to have open heart surgery to place a BT Shunt. After a few months of dealing with a chronic post-op complication and unexpected surgery to resolve the issue Charli is thriving! We are enjoying every minute with her as we await her next surgery. Charli amazes us every single day with her strength and positive attitude. Charli has taught us how to appreciate and love life with her constant smiling and happiness! She is a true Heart Warrior!
Prior to Charli's diagnosis we had no idea how many babies were impacted by CHD. We could not be more grateful for the advancements in medicine that have allowed the amazing team at NYU to help our Charli! That being said, Chris and I have recently accepted the challenge of participating in the Congenital Heart Walk to raise funds for research and programs dedicated to fighting congenital heart disease—the most common birth defect in the United States. The Congenital Heart Walk benefits two great national organizations, the Adult Congenital Heart Association and The Children's Heart Foundation.
